The Tennessee River is known for its tremendous population of large blues and flatheads. The state record blue caught by a commercial fisherman was caught in Fort Loudon and weighed 130lbs! Now both Fort Loudon and Watts Bar are banned from commercial fishing and have potential of producing record class blues and flatheads.
Average size for catfish is 5 to 40 pounds with an occassional fish reaching 50+ pounds!
Catfish trips are taken on Fort Loudon and Watts Bar Lakes only.
Due to the Advisory of TVA stating not to eat the fish because of polution, these trips are geared more toward catching trophy fish and having a great time, requiring that all catfish trips be catch and release.
